The watermill in Velp

These are the  beautiful pictures of the watermill situated nearby our home in Velp. This very old watermill (from the middle ages and almost 650 years old) will be renovated after the winter. What is so special about these pictures - the frozen water! It is quite extraordinary for the Dutch to see the frozen waterfall revealing the little winter wonder.  I can observe this piece of work of mother nature while having the daily walk with our dog. But soon it will melt … and Spring will bring us other miracles.

Translation from English to Russian: Continue reading ‘The watermill in Velp’

Emmerich at the Rhine

Emmerich at the Rhine is a small German city situated in the neighbourhood of another German city called Kleve. The city looks rather modern because it was almost completely destroyed at the end of World War II and then rebuilt. Many people from the nearest villages come to Emmerich to do shopping. Thanks to the beautiful embankment and location on the river bank this city became the local tourist center. In summer time you can see the tourist sheeps tied at a wharf. Rhine bridge connecting Emmerich with Kleve is the longest suspension bridge in Germany. On the parking place there is an electric car charging point stressing the modern look of the city.

In search of mammoths

Where to go for the weekend? One of the most exotic answers to this question: “Go to seek for mammoths”.

To put it more precisely – not mammoths, but their bones. Also you can seek for the bones of other ancient animals such as bison and ancient horses, that were living on the territory of present-day Chelyabinsk region 15-20 thousand years ago.

Speleologist and paleontologist Vladimir Ivanovich Yurin names Continue reading ‘In search of mammoths’
