Veluwezoom National Park, Netherlands

Veluwezoom National Park is a part of the forest and heaths between  Arnhem and Dieren (Gelderland, Netherlands). It is one of the oldest national parks of  The Netherlands. Many animals feel at home here due to the large area (5000 hectares) and the varied landscape. In this area the herbivorous animals are common: Scottish Highlanders, Icelandic horses, deers. The largest mammal of the Netherlands is elk.  But smaller animals also find home here such as boars, hares, foxes and squirrels. In future Veluwezoom will be connected to the Oostvaardersplassen area in Flevoland, Netherlands and wild nature areas in Germany.

Mushroom hunt in Russia

Russian birches

This birch grove is located right nearby the houses of the North-West district of the city of Chelyabinsk. On a hot summer day people like to walk along the paths of the grove, listen to the birds singing and enjoy the bright colors of summer. Many residents of the area come to the grove with their families or just alone. Someone organizes a picnic for friends and someone just wants to become sunburnt. When you unexpectedly see horses, a strong feeling of close contact with nature comes.

The grove smoothly turns into the forest, which stretches for tens of kilometers. In summer and autumn you can collect mushrooms and berries there, and in winter you can enjoy skiing. Click picture to see photo album:

Parks and forests of Germany

Forests in Germany don’t look like the forests in Russia. German forest is nearly the park, well maintained and clean. In this forest you will not find any dry twig or a fallen tree. Dried parts of trees are neatly stacked in piles covered with polyethylene. Such an exemplary state of forests is directly linked to issues of ownership: the majority of forest lands is private property. Wood does not bring much revenue, but brings a lot of work and hassle. But being an owner of forest in Germany is prestigious, that is why the forests look as cozy as a lawn in front of a warm house.

Fall in the Veluwe national park

What I like about the Veluwe? Sometimes when I walk I feel like walking in the Sahara, beautiful woods in California or the Russian taiga. But after half our walking I can see we live in Holland: houses with antenna’s or just the motorway. The end of a nice day dream.

Information about the Veluwe national park, Gelderland, Netherland:

The Veluwe is a forest-rich ridge of hills (1100 km²) in the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. Continue reading ‘Fall in the Veluwe national park’
